Beware of the Dog Game by University Games is both fun and exciting. Shhhhh the dog's sleeping. You can hear him snore. Whatever you do, don't wake him up because when he's disturbed, he gets very grouchy. Each player takes turns with the cat paw tweezers to try and steal his bones. Draw a card and take the number of bones of the correct color shown on the card from the pooch's dish without waking him up. But when you least expect it, he wakes up and jumps for his bones with a growl. At this point, a squeal or a scream is not uncommon, but don't worry his bark is worse than his bite. The player with the most correct bones wins. This suspenseful skill and action game will keep children giggling and parents shrieking. Beware of the Dog game is fun for the whole family.

Not what we expected
This game was on my 7 year old's wish list for Christmas, so we got it. She loves dogs and board games, so was excited to play. The picture on the front of the box made her think it was a friendly bulldog, but she didn't like being startled by the snarling, growling meaner-looking (to her) plastic dog. The not-so-friendly surprise factor made her not want to play, so it has stayed in the box since Christmas. I agree with the reviewers who said the game is durable, but the plastic tongs are too big for the tiny bones. Wish I had read the reviews a bit more carefully!
Kids loved it.
The kids spent Christmas morning playing the game and loved it. My youngest was a little frightened by the dog but still managed to keep on playing. Great for fine motor skills and recognizing numbers and letters.
Adorable and Fun!
I got this for my boys for Christmas. Ages 5 and 7. Both were excited by the pictures on the box. It was very easy to assemble, though you need a screwdriver to put the batteries in. The little bones are tiny and thin and the tweezers are oversized and a little hard to use. I grabbed a pair from the cabinet and both had an easier time of it. Also - I suggest letting the dog run through a couple of naps. He seemed to have a hair trigger and kept jumping up at first. I shut it off and reset and it was fine.
Despite those few minor things - this is a very fun game if not overly educational. As someone else mentioned it can be startling when the dog wakes up and starts barking. I didn't find it overly loud but when your little ones are concentrating it tends to startle them regardless. This is where the personality of your child comes into play. My 7 yr old loved the suspense and cackled when the dog woke up barking. My 5 yr old got mad and slapped it off the table because it startled him so. It's pretty sturdy so it fared okay - despite little bones flying everywhere.
The 5 yr old likes to watch his brother play rather than participating. The suspense isn't so bad when you're watching someone else I guess. It was worth the price of the game for the enjoyment my oldest gets from playing and my youngest by watching. They laugh like little banshees :)
